THE UNIVERSITY OF COIMBRA MUSEUM OF SCIENCE OFFICE OF CURIOSITIES: AN INTERPRETATION

This room provides the sensation of a whole world created by “strange”, unusual and beautiful objects that, due to their beauty and enigmatic nature, arouse curiosity, inquisitiveness and the desire for knowledge in visitors of all ages.

This is a “Theatre of the world” open to families!

This place, in which the changes in light guide the visitors, enables you to sample the fantastic collection professors and researchers at the University of Coimbra have been creating over the last 250 years.

The entire strength and universal nature of the University of Coimbra is presented in a compact and engaging manner.

There are no explanatory captions here, as the idea is to recreate pre-museum science where contemplation and admiration were taken to the extreme.

The total immersion of visitors in this room aims to enhance the visitor's desire to get to know the museum´s other rooms, where organisation and scientific information take pride of place.

It intends to create an emotional and sensorial challenge for the understanding and experience of a museum with a classical, although gradually modernised, matrix.
