Secrets of Light and Matter

The archaeological work carried out in the late-20th and early-21st century uncovered items that used to belong to this room: tiles, a well-preserved window with its original stonework, a pulpit, two rear windows and the ceiling beam, rebuilt in accordance with the original design and struts.

The refectory, completed in 1596, had five windows on the south facade. Two pulpits facing each other were inserted in the central windows, with access stairs taking advantage of the thickness of the wall, in addition to a still visible pulpit. The original floor was made of stone, identical to that of the 20th century Chemistry Laboratory.

This 21st century exhibition features examples from different museum collections and explores the importance of 18th century experimental scientific research.
