CHEMISTRY LABORATORY 200 YEARS ON: AN EXAMPLE

The laboratory set-up portrayed in this room was first installed in the University of Coimbra Chemistry Department building (Complex I) in the mid-1980s, and was later transferred to the University of Coimbra Department of Chemical Engineering (Complex II) in 2000.

The main function of this laboratory is the determination of thermodynamic properties such as vapour pressure and density, of mixtures of simple molecules of two or three compounds at low temperatures.

After being closed down, the entire facility was transferred to the Science Museum in 2021, representing the important role played by this institution in the preservation of the University of Coimbra´s scientific assets.
